"Babies are for cuddling and snuggling,"
Almost everyone says.
"They are for smiling and cooing,
And some burping and pooing.
"Babies are for looking and watching,
And 'ooing' and 'awing'.
And learning new things,
Like their rolling and crawling.
"Sometimes they might cry,
And that's when you rock them.
Sometimes they might stir.
And that's when you feed them,
"Then once crawling and toddling,
You hide all the dangers.
You cover every corner,
And remove garbage containers.
"You put the plants up high,
And electronics in drawers.
Then put locks and straps,
On the cupboards and doors.
"You hide the cords and the bags,
And conceal the edges and hooks.
And instead you can give them,
Flashy toys and board books."
"Bah! Where's the fun?"
Say the enthusiastic dads.
Who treat their babies like toys,
And put socks on their hands.
"Let them walk and crawl,
And tumble and fall,
And giggle and laugh,
And get hit by the ball.
"We can throw them up high,
Watch their faces glow bright,
And nine of ten times,
Catch them in our arms tight.
"We will chase them down hallways,
And they'll chase us back.
They'll squeal when we catch them,
Then hug and pat our backs.
"When their eyes start to dim,
We'll read them stories that rhyme.
And then we'll put them down,
For their nap just in time."

Oh, the strange and fun(ny) things that daddies do--like put socks on their hands:
